Why Brackenridge?

Brackenridge is proud to offer mana-enhancing support across the Canterbury region. We are a registered charity that offers accommodation and daily living support to children, young people and adults with intellectual disabilities, autism, and complex support requirements in Canterbury. We advocate for the rights and prosperity of all of the people we support, along with their families and whānau.

Meet Chicago and his Community Support Worker, Edge...

Chicago Tehira is working towards ticking off some major goals, like gaining a driver’s license, learning how to cook and saving up for a computer and more travel.

“I like that with Brackenridge I can just get out there in the community and do things,” says Chicago.

Together with Edge, Chicago is also learning Filipino, saving up for a laptop, skilling up in the kitchen and would love to one day live on his own. “I see my role as helping the people I support to make choices and live independently, so if that means making a budget, making a time to go bike riding, we do it and we do it together,” says Edge.
